The roots for the firm were set over three decades ago in 1985 when Mitch Wilkinson established Wilkinson Hatton, one of the first fee-based financial advisers in the UK. Our history and experience has enabled us to be at the forefront of good practice in the financial services profession, with the primary objective of delivering quality, independent and straightforward advice.
Newcastle financial adviser Rutherford Wilkinson was created by the merger of Rutherford Financial Management Ltd and Wilkinson Hatton in 2002. The primary motivation for the merger was to create a business with the strength and sufficient capacity to create teams of financial advisers who specialise in their chosen discipline and therefore offer a more in-depth, knowledgeable and bespoke financial advice service to its clients.
We believe that the “one adviser does everything” model is outdated. By adopting this approach of the creation of specialist teams to the provision of financial advice, it means that we can advise our clients at the highest level within our areas of expertise.
Today we are one of the largest and most successful Chartered financial advisers in the North East, boasting many household name companies and high-profile individuals as clients. Although committed to the North East in terms of our own location, our clients are dotted across the country, demonstrating our commitment to offer an exceptional service and their willingness to look beyond their normal boundaries to get the very best financial management.
Confidentiality, integrity and accessibility are keystones upon which our service is built. While markets, taxes and financial rules can appear complicated, it just takes the expertise of someone who knows such subjects inside out to explain this to you. Offering straightforward advice delivered with integrity and keeping confidentiality in mind is the approach adopted by all the advisers at Rutherford Wilkinson.
Our strapline, big enough to deliver, small enough to care was not developed by a marketing or brand consultancy, but borne out of client feedback as to how our clients perceived our service.
Rutherford Wilkinson is part of a larger national financial adviser group, Perspective, with managing director Ian Wilkinson sitting on the main board as Group Practice Director, responsible for all practice related matters. Perspective group featured in the FT Top 100 Financial Advisers league table. It now appears at position 16, moving up from position 34 in 2015 and position 47 in 2014.
